Cheap Autograph – Mark Reynolds
Player’s Name: Mark Reynolds
Player’s Position: 3B
Player’s Current Team: Arizona Diamondbacks
Price I Paid for the Card: $2.00 purchased on eBay.
Set it’s from: 2008 Upper Deck Series one
What it’s Worth: Since the 2008 Upper Deck hasn’t been priced yet, I’ll go from last year’s set and put him as a minor star worth $8.00.
Why I like this card: Reynolds hit the MLB seen with a proverbial bang. He became to no name slugger you everyone had to have on their fantasy league team. He had always been known for his power, but I don’t think anyone was ready for what he did for the Diamond backs last year. in 366 at bats (so a little more than half a season’s worth) he went 0.279/17/62. I think he is going to be a terrific hitter but in order to become elite, he is going to have to learn how to cut down on the strikeouts. He is not going to put up A-Rod numbers, but then again, A-Rod may be one of the best hitters in baseball history when it’s all said and done. No, I would expect Glaus like numbers. At least for the first part of his career. He may never pass the 40 homer plateau, but I see bright things ahead for him.
Why it’s a Cheap Hit: Being Reynolds is one of the hot young players in the game, I was surprised to see his card worth so little on eBay. Sure he doesn’t have the name recognition of a Fielder or a Chaimberlain, but give him a year or two and he might be up there with those names. I find it a lot harder to find cheap autographs on eBay than finding cheap jerseys. When you stumble across an auto under the $4 mark, you have to take advantage of it. Even if it isn’t a player who is fully developed into a major leaguer yet (like Reynolds). I a curious to know what you guys think of Reynolds. Since you now know about my man crush on him.
Will it Ever be Worth Anything More than a minor star?: This is a tough one to answer. If he goes out and has the career I think he is capable of, maybe this will become a more valuable card. Of course if he goes out and just hammers the ball this year, then absolutely. Of course if the opposite happens, this will just become another worthless autograph. It should be fun to see what will happen.
